Healthy bodies, healthy minds
Dec 3, 2006
Thunder Bay Chronicle (By: Sarah Elizabeth Brown)
When the Living School Initiative was created 3 years ago, Thunder Bay’s Bishop Gallagher School was one of only nine schools in Ontario participating. Since then, 21 more schools have been added to the list. Two teachers and the principal of Bishop Gallagher were invited by Health Promotion Minister, Jim Watson, to display their school’s results at the International Healthy Eating Active Living conference held in November of 2006. Although final figures have not yet been calculated, teachers have noticed improvements in student attitudes, less absenteeism, increased attention span and alertness, and less occurrence of getting into trouble.
