Greensborough Public School’s gym classes are held outdoors as its gym is not scheduled to open for another month. However, this hasn’t prevented them from taking part in the Living School program. After all, schools need more than balls and equipment to encourage children to get fit. At Greensborough, there is a separate workout room where teachers can bring their class in order to work DPA into their curriculum. Students will take part in year-round workshops on lunchbox nutrition and playground games thanks to York Region’s public health unit. The Living School grant, in addition to money raised by community partnerships and fundraising drives, will be used to build a playground and bring in guest speakers and workshop leaders over the course of the year. Researchers will visit the school twice this year to collect data and use that information to form conclusions and recommendations for the province.
